A brief history of the Chicago & North Western route from Beloit to Winona:

06/26/21

Located west of Sparta, this deck girder bridge carries the La Crosse River State Trail over the Little La Crosse River.
Built in 1908, the bridge consists of three identical girder spans, set onto older stone substructures. The stone substructures appear to date to the 1880s.
Bridges such as this were commonly used, as ease of construction and lack of required maintenance made for an attractive design. Unfortunately, no plaques were found on this bridge.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition, being painted not long before it became a trail.

The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
